Whether it’s a holiday, or just a relaxing weekend with no plans, here are some ideas to keep yourself and the kids occupied while spending quality time together.
1. Make Desserts
A lot of kids enjoy helping to make delicious desserts, such as cookies or ice cream sundaes. Not only is baking entertaining, it’s also educational as they learn to measure and sort ingredients.
2. Play Outside
Providing the weather is nice, outside play is a great activity for all children, especially when they’re full of energy. There are so many fun things to do outside: go to the park, play tag and running games, blowing bubbles, shovelling or sweeping, etc. Bringing arts and crafts outside, or painting the snow, are also fun and easier to clean up than doing them indoors!
3. Movie Day
Stay in your pyjamas all day and choose a movie or two to watch. You can make popcorn and junk food to snack on while you watch.
4. Messy Day
Painting, science experiments, and sensory goops will keep your child entertained on a stay-home day. Your child can help to set out the materials and prepare the fun with you. Maybe they’ll even help to clean up!
5. Talent Show
Decide whether you want to sing, dance, or act; and then put on a show! You can even video tape it or invite an audience once your performance is perfected.
6. Photo Scrapbooking
Gather some art supplies and print out a bunch of family photos so that your child help you scrapbook. The end result may even make a great gift for an upcoming birthday or holiday.
7. Build a fort
Gather all the blankets and pillows in your home to make an awesome fort. You can hang out in it all day and bring a bunch of toys or games inside to play.
8. Treasure hunt
Dress up as pirates and plan a treasure hunt! Your child will be very excited to figure out the clues to find a treasure chest full of goodies.
9. Game Tournament
Choose an assortment of board games or card games to play all day. Keep track of who wins to find out who the ultimate champion is.
10. Teddy bear picnic
Even if the weather is awful, a living room picnic is just as exciting. Together, you and your child can pack the picnic and eat it in an unusual place.
